Rivers Sterling is a nationally certified Acupuncturist, alumni of Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, in Santa Monica. She has a thorough foundation in Naturopathic Medicine from National College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Portland. Rivers studied Visionary CranialSacral Technique through the Milne Institute, relentlessly flying all over the states to study directly with Dr. Hugh Milne. She interned with the best doctors she could find in Homeopathy, Orthopedic Rehabilitation, Oncology, Virology and Integrative Medicine. Rivers has served on the faculty at the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, Texas. Interweaving medical studies with study at the Institute of Shamanic Studies and in Native American Healing Arts gives Rivers a rich, broad and eclectic understanding of deep energy medicine.
Rivers came of age at the far edge of Jack Kerouac's On The Road days, hopping freight trains and hitch-hiking semis across the country. She continued the adventure by embarking on a 9 year, around the world vision quest. After attending several medical schools, Rivers became a whitewater rafting guide and went on to create a spiritual river expedition company, featured in Outside Magazine. On land, she rode her bike everywhere with her little black dog stowed in a milk crate bungeed to the back. On the water, the stubborn little dog rode shotgun on the back of the kayak (with her own PFD, of course).
Rivers initiated a string of free clinics on reservations and at festivals, using community outreach as an opportunity to educate the public on alternative medicine. One of these is CureVille Free Clinic which is celebrating a decade of community service to the tribes of KerrVille Folk Festival. She also ran a free clinic for SunDancers in South Dakota, as well as other 3rd world communities in the SouthWest. Enjoying paradoxes of life is not new to Rivers. While living 'off the grid' in a New Mexican trailer with solar panels and a wood stove, she periodically commuted to a (very) high end practice in Manhattan.
Surviving disabling illness taught her about despair and endurance. Surviving a series of closed head injuries taught her about pain and perception. This common ground of experience enriches her contact with suffering clients.
Currently Rivers consults as a medical intuitive with both conventional and alternative physicians and is a Vibrational Sciences research partner with Dr. Robert Gilbert, PhD, Founder of the Vesica Institute, in Asheville, NC. She maintains a private practice with clients in both 'real' & remote spaces.
